(this web page is a journey in progress 4/2/2022)
My prayer is about me and my journey. We all have different gifts and needs, and these are the things I feel I need to work on. I am sharing my experience here so that others may benefit from my journey. Some may find portions of it useful or may be inspired to do something similar for themselves.
My prayer is a supplement and not a replacement to the other more common prayers that I know. I have a desire to go beyond where I am to get as close to Jesus as I can. I look for common and different experiences along with the understanding and language to go with them. I sought them in books which are mostly old books by authors that can be found in the Christian Mysticism category.
I am still very early in my journey as there is much more to read. As I read and study a book, I look for inspiring and thought provoking phrases to add to my prayer. Sometimes they are taken directly, and other times I rewrite them to make them easier for me to say. Other times I summarize or combine them. So as I read more books, my prayer continues to grow, and I expect that to continue. I have organized my prayer into sections of Who am I, Love, Presence, Service, Thanksgiving, Choice, and Unity.
Since I have written my prayer slowly line by line over time, I know this prayer by heart. I try to say it to myself multiple times a day. I repeat some lines multiple times as I ponder them and explore their meaning. I want to fully mean each line in my heart, and to get as much from it as I can, just as I do with other prayers. When time is limited, I might only go through one section. And when in need, I may jump around dwelling on the most powerful lines appropriate for the moment. This prayer is a part of me.
